Eurorack Modular Synthesiser
Modular synthesiser with a DIY VCO
My first PCB design project, pictured below, was a discrete analogue VCO for a eurorack-style modular synthesiser. I designed and constructed the PCB and front panel at age 15. This module contributed to a larger system pictured underneath, which was entirely soldered and assembled by myself from kits, and featured a custom power supply and laser-cut enclosure. It’s amazing looking back on my earliest PCB designs, and reflecting on how far I’ve come as an electronics engineer. There is an endless list of things I would do differently were I to re-tackle this project, which I hope to do one day. The VCO worked surprisingly well, it sounded great and I managed to get about 3 octaves of tracking out of it before the poorly matched linear-to-exponential converter would give in.
